Archangel Michael the Greatest of the Archangels

Archangel Michael the Greatest of the Archangels

Writings in the Bible concerning the Archangel Michael. There are 7 named archangels in Jewish tradition, Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Raguel, Saraqael and Remiel. All of them end with the “el” suffix. “El” means “in God”. Each archangel’s name prefix has a meaning that signifies the special type of work that he or she does.

The name Michael means “who is like God” and he is considered the defender of the Lord. There are two mentions of the Archangel Michael in the Bible; one, when Michael argued with the devil about the body of Moses, he did not slander him. And the other is when Michael and other angels fought the dragon in heaven as seen by John the Apostle. In modern times, as a defender, Archangel Michael is also considered the Patron Saint of Policemen.
